Dictation Mode
Use push-to-talk or hands-free recording to transcribe speech into text.
Hold a hotkey, speak, and release. Glaido transcribes what you said, cleans it up, and pastes it into whatever app you're in.
How it works
- Audio capture. Your microphone records audio while you speak. Built-in noise reduction cleans up the signal automatically.
- Transcription. Audio is streamed to Glaido's servers where Whisper AI converts speech to text.
- Formatting. An AI model applies punctuation, capitalization, and your custom formatting rules.
- Paste. The final text is pasted into your active text field.
All four steps run once you stop speaking. A short sentence comes back sooner than a long paragraph.
On macOS, if no text field was selected when you stopped, a Nowhere to paste notification offers a Copy button. Click it, then paste the text where you want it.
Recording modes
Hold to record, release to transcribe.
The default. Use it for messages and short paragraphs.
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Hold hotkey | Recording starts |
| Speak | Audio is captured |
| Release hotkey | Recording stops, text is transcribed and pasted |
Default hotkey: Fn (macOS) / Ctrl + Win (Windows)
Live feedback
While you record:
- The dictation bar appears at the bottom-center of your screen with a live waveform of your audio. It never steals focus from the app you're working in. If it overlaps something, move it up with Dictation bar location on the Dictation tab in Settings: Bottom, Raised, or High.
- Interaction sounds play when recording starts and stops. That switch sits on the Dictation tab too. See General for the rest of the list.
Tips for best results
Dictate complete thoughts. Longer, continuous speech formats better than short fragments. More in Tips for Better Results.
Voice Activation
Open a dictation with "Glaido," and the rest of the sentence runs as a command instead of being pasted. "Hey Glaido" works too. The name has to be one of your first two words. See Voice Activation.
