Troubleshooting
Fix common problems with installation, hotkeys, microphone, and transcription.
My hotkey doesn't work
On macOS: Glaido needs Accessibility permission to detect global hotkeys. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and make sure Glaido is enabled. If it's already listed but toggled off, toggle it on.
On Windows: Check that no other app is using the same key combination. Some keyboard utilities also use Ctrl + Win.
After granting or changing permissions, restart Glaido.
To check your permissions at any time, open Settings > Account and click Check permissions next to Permissions.
Text isn't being pasted after I dictate
This is almost always a missing Accessibility permission on macOS. Glaido can transcribe your audio but can't type into other apps without it.
Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility, find Glaido in the list, and enable it. Restart Glaido after granting access.
Windows doesn't need a paste permission.
On macOS, if you dictate with no text field selected, a Nowhere to paste notification offers a Copy button. Click it, then paste the text where you want it.
Glaido can't hear my microphone
- Check that your microphone is plugged in and selected as the default input device in your OS audio settings
- Go to Settings > Dictation in Glaido and verify the correct microphone is selected (or set it to Auto-detect)
- On macOS, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and confirm Glaido is enabled
- On Windows, go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and turn on microphone access for desktop apps
On macOS, auto-detect skips Bluetooth microphones unless you turn on Include Bluetooth devices in Settings > Dictation. The switch only shows while the microphone is set to Auto-detect. Bluetooth mics usually transcribe less accurately.
Transcripts come out wrong
- Add custom words to the Dictionary for names, technical terms, or brand names that Glaido consistently gets wrong. See Dictionary.
- Check your microphone position. 6 to 12 inches from your mouth is ideal.
- Reduce background noise. Move somewhere quieter if you can. On macOS, Mute background in Settings > Dictation turns other apps down while you record, and it's on by default. On Windows the same setting is called Mute system audio and it's off by default, so turn it on if you want it.
- Select the right language. If you're dictating in a language that isn't selected, accuracy drops. See Languages.
- Use a wired microphone instead of a laptop's built-in mic or a Bluetooth device when possible.
The dictation bar covers something on my screen
Raise the dictation bar in Settings > Dictation, under Behavior. The Dictation bar location options are Bottom, Raised, and High.
Glaido doesn't start automatically at login
Go to Settings > General, find Launch app at login under System, and check that it's on.
On macOS, if the setting is on but Glaido still doesn't launch, check System Settings > General > Login Items and make sure Glaido is listed there.
A dictation failed and I can't find the audio
When a dictation fails, Glaido keeps the audio on your computer. The failure notification has a Retry button. You can also go to Home, find the row marked Transcription failed in the Activity list, and click Retry on it. The same button is inside the record. See History.
Glaido shows Glaido couldn't start or Update Glaido
If Glaido shows Glaido couldn't start, click Retry. Your data stays on this computer. If it keeps happening, Get help opens the Support page.
An Update Glaido notification means your version is too old to reach the Glaido service. Open Settings > Account and click Check for updates next to App updates.
Still stuck?
Re-run the setup wizard. Open Settings > Account and click Restart wizard next to Setup wizard. If that doesn't fix it, see Support.
