Voice input for Cursor

Yes, you can talk to Cursor instead of typing. Cursor has its own microphone in the Agent chat input. Glaido adds a hotkey that works everywhere else in Cursor too: the editor, the integrated terminal, and the commit message box. With one formatting rule, file names and function names come out in their code form.

Free to start on macOS and Windows 11.

BUILT-IN VS GLAIDO

Does Cursor have voice input?

Cursor has a microphone in its Agent chat input, and in the Agents Window you can hold Ctrl+M to speak. That covers the chat box well. Most of a coding session happens in other boxes, though, and that's where Glaido comes in.

What Cursor gives you

  • A microphone icon in the Agent chat input that turns speech into a prompt you review before sending.
  • Hold Ctrl+M to talk in the Agents Window, with a waveform, timer, and cancel and confirm controls.
  • Built into Cursor, with nothing extra to install.

What Glaido adds

  • The same hotkey in the chat, the editor, the integrated terminal, the commit message box, and every other app.
  • A formatting rule for Cursor alone, so prompts keep identifiers like getUserById and auth.ts in code form.
  • Commands on selected code: select a function, hold the commands hotkey, and ask about it.

Checked on October 16, 2026 against Cursor docs: Prompting agents, Cursor 3.1 changelog.

If you only dictate short prompts into the Agent chat, Cursor's own mic is enough. Use it.

WHERE YOU CAN TALK

Every box in a coding session

Where you're typingCursor's micGlaido
Agent chatYesYes
Agents WindowYes, hold Ctrl+MYes
A comment in the editorNoYes
The integrated terminalNoYes
The commit message boxNoYes
Slack, your browser, a pull requestNoYes

Each of those boxes wants different text. A prompt reads like a brief, a commit message is one line, and a comment explains a decision. One rule handles all three, because the AI cleanup keeps your sentence shape and the prompt below protects the code parts.

THE SETUP

A formatting rule for agent prompts

Spoken prompts are messy: you start sentences twice, say "dot tsx", and list steps without numbering them. Keep the AI cleanup on so the prose reads cleanly, and give it this prompt so it leaves code alone.

This is a prompt for a coding agent. Write file names, function names, and CLI flags in their code form, like getUserById, auth.ts, or --force. Keep my wording and the order I said things in. Turn steps I list out loud into a numbered list.

Dictionary words to start with:
  • Supabase
  • Tailwind
  • Next.js
  • useEffect
  • Postgres ← “postgress”
  • pnpm

To add it, open Formatting in Glaido, click Add rule, add Cursor under Apps, and paste the prompt. Dictate in Cursor once first, so Cursor shows up at the top of the app picker.

For a quick prompt, hold Fn on macOS or Ctrl + Win on Windows. For a long one where you think as you talk, use hands-free: Fn + Space, or Ctrl + Win + Shift.

IN PRACTICE

Three kinds of text, one hotkey

Brief the agent on a bug

Agent chat, after reproducing a bug in the login flow.

YOU SAY
“okay so the login form submits twice when you press enter, I think it's the useEffect in LoginForm dot tsx, it re-subscribes on every render, can you fix it and add a test”
WHAT LANDS IN CURSOR

The login form submits twice when you press Enter. I think it's the useEffect in LoginForm.tsx: it re-subscribes on every render. Can you fix it and add a test?

Plan a refactor in steps

Agent chat, before a larger change.

YOU SAY
“first move the API calls out of the components into a lib folder, second add error handling for timeouts, third update the imports, and don't touch the styling”
WHAT LANDS IN CURSOR

1. Move the API calls out of the components into a lib folder. 2. Add error handling for timeouts. 3. Update the imports. Don't touch the styling.

Explain a decision in a comment

In the editor, after typing // above a function.

YOU SAY
“this retries three times because the payments API sometimes returns a five oh two on the first call”
WHAT LANDS IN CURSOR

Retries three times because the payments API sometimes returns a 502 on the first call.

Illustrative examples. Review the text before you send it.

When you're reading code instead of writing it, select a block, hold the commands hotkey, and ask "what happens here if the token is expired?" The answer appears in Glaido's command window. Press Esc to close it without touching your file.

When something doesn't land right

The terminal panel uses your Cursor rule

Cursor's integrated terminal is part of the Cursor app, so dictation there uses your Writing code rule, not a rule you made for Terminal or iTerm. That suits prompts to a CLI agent. For exact shell commands, typing is still faster.

Text didn't appear

Glaido pastes into the field that has focus, so click into the chat input or editor first. On macOS, if nothing had focus, a Nowhere to paste notification offers a Copy button.

Commands and the terminal on Windows

On Windows, Glaido doesn't press Ctrl+C in a terminal to read your selection, because Ctrl+C would stop the running process. Select text in the editor instead.

Cursor's own mic stopped working on a company network

Cursor's built-in dictation streams over HTTP/2. Cursor's team suggests setting Network > HTTP Compatibility Mode to HTTP/1.1 when a proxy blocks it. Glaido is a separate app and isn't affected.

GOOD TO KNOW

Cursor and Glaido: questions

Does Cursor have voice input?

Yes. Cursor has a microphone in the Agent chat input, and the Agents Window supports hold-to-talk with Ctrl+M. It only types into the chat. Glaido types into any field in Cursor and in every other app.

Can I dictate code itself?

You can, but it isn't where voice shines. Dictate the intent, the prompt, the comment, or the commit message, and let Cursor's agent write the code.

Will Glaido conflict with Cursor's Ctrl+M shortcut?

No. Glaido's defaults are Fn on macOS and Ctrl + Win on Windows. You can change them in Settings > Hotkeys.

Does Glaido tag files in Cursor's chat?

No. Glaido pastes text. Say the file name and Cursor's agent can find it, or type @ and pick the file before you dictate the rest of the prompt.
