Minecraft how to craft while you play

Look up Minecraft how to craft while you play, with the crafting grid still open and the materials already in your inventory. Hold Glaido's commands hotkey, say the item and your edition, and the recipe opens in a window on top of the game.

Free to start on macOS and Windows 11.

YOU SAY
“Java. At a crafting table with planks and sticks. How do I craft a wooden pickaxe?”
YOU GET
Which grid you need and where each supply sits, in a window on top of the game. You place the supplies.
YOU NEED
Glaido's Commands and an internet connection.
WORKS IN
macOS and Windows, on top of Minecraft. The game keeps your keyboard, so you can still move.
BEFORE YOU START

What you need first

  • Commands in Glaido

In the sidebar, with a Beta badge. Looking a recipe up on the web is one of its commands.

  • Item names in your dictionary

The lookup follows the words it heard, and blazerod is not the same search as blaze rod. Add the items you craft often, the way you add a person's name.

THE GRID

Minecraft how to craft, when the grid is already open

A log is in your inventory, or a drop you do not recognize is in your hand, and you do not remember the shape.

Search Minecraft how to craft and you get Minecraft's own article, the wiki, and a recipe database. The right read before a new world. A bad one when night is coming, the grid is open, and a browser would take the world off the screen.

THE HOTKEY

Minecraft how to craft while you play, step by step

  1. Leave the grid open

Don't have Glaido yet? Install it free

Enter pastes wherever the cursor is, so keep it out of chat and text boxes unless you want the recipe written there.

  2. Hold the commands hotkey and name the item

It is not the dictation key. Say the item, how many you have, and Java or Bedrock, then let go. The window opens on top.

  3. Read it, then place the supplies yourself

You drag the supplies into the grid. Esc closes the window and pastes nothing.

  4. Ask again if the shape will not take

Hold the same hotkey, say the edition again, and say the name exactly as the tooltip spells it. A wrong name looks up a different item.

WHAT YOU SAY

What to say for Minecraft crafting recipes and item uses

Say the tooltip name, how many you have, and Java or Bedrock, every time. Some shapes differ between editions, and an answer that never hears the edition is guessing.

The shape. Ask for one item. A useful answer names the grid, the 2 by 2 in your inventory or the 3 by 3 on a crafting table, and where each supply sits. A pickaxe needs the table, because it does not fit in four slots.

What a Minecraft item does. Name a drop, and a useful answer says what you craft from it and what can wait, not the whole database.

Java Edition. One wood block in the inventory grid. How do I make a crafting table?

Put the wood block in the 2 by 2 inventory grid and take the four planks. Fill all four slots with planks, any wood, and take the crafting table. Place it for recipes that need a 3 by 3 grid. Match this to the grid in front of you.

The first two recipes in Minecraft's how-to-craft article. This reply is an example, not every recipe.

A wooden pickaxe

The table is down. You want the first tool.

YOU SAY
“Java. I am at a crafting table. I have planks and sticks. How do I craft a wooden pickaxe?”
WHAT LANDS IN THE COMMAND WINDOW

Top row of the 3 by 3 grid: three planks. Middle of the center and bottom rows: one stick each. Sticks are two planks stacked in a column, made in the inventory grid.

What this drop is for

A blaze dropped something. Keep it or not?

YOU SAY
“Java. I am holding a blaze rod. What is it for? Skip the brewing list.”
WHAT LANDS IN THE COMMAND WINDOW

Keep it. A blaze rod makes a brewing stand and is the source of blaze powder, which you combine with an ender pearl for an eye of ender. Ignore brewing until you have a base.

Bedrock, not Java

The shape you remember is from a video, and you play Bedrock.

YOU SAY
“Bedrock, not Java. Wooden pickaxe at a crafting table. Same shape as Java?”
WHAT LANDS IN THE COMMAND WINDOW

Three planks across the top row and two sticks down the middle. If the grid refuses it, stop and open the recipe book. Do not keep placing supplies from a Java answer.

RECIPE BOOK OR GLAIDO

The Minecraft recipe book, the wiki, or Glaido

Finding a recipeThe recipe book, in both editions, in your inventory and on a crafting table. On Java, also the furnace and the smoker. Pick an item and the supplies land in the grid, missing ones in red.One recipe, said while the grid stays on screen.
Every shapeThe wiki and recipe sites list them all.One item at a time. Read a wiki before a modpack or a long project.
What a drop is forThe recipe book does not answer it by itself.Name it and hear what you craft from it.
A follow-upThe catalog does not take one.Hold the same hotkey and ask again.

GOOD TO KNOW

Minecraft and Glaido: questions

Is this a Minecraft mod?

No. Glaido is a separate app on your computer, and its window stays on top of Minecraft. You never install anything into the game itself. It never presses keys or your mouse, so it cannot click the grid, place blocks, or move supplies.

Can it see what I am holding?

No. Read the item name out loud and say how many you have. Leave the name out and the recipe is a guess.

The recipe book is already in the game. Why ask?

Use the book when you can find the item in its tabs and you have the supplies. Ask when the thing in your hand is something the book does not explain, or when you want the shape said back while the world stays on screen.

Does the same recipe work in Java and Bedrock?

A lot of recipes match. Some do not. A Java answer used on Bedrock can show a shape the grid will not accept, so say which one you are playing.

What if the recipe is wrong?

Check it against the recipe book before you spend a rare item. Then ask again with the item name and your edition.
